The estimate before these observations remains a 4.3% chance of lunar impact, with a miss overwhelmingly favored. Earth is not in the impact picture, and even a lunar strike would not alter the Moon’s orbit. What researchers want now is clarity: did Webb find the nearly invisible target, and if so, where exactly was it? The images and calculations will need careful analysis.
